6:05 call to order board present Gary Smith, Shane Ruboyianes, Sean McDonald and George Freeman. Jim Carr and Bob Mitchell on the advisory board also were present. 6:06 The Ludington Coast Guard was present, officer Wychocki spoke saying unless they see a blatant offense on a charter they will not board us. George Freeman asked why we would have to do inspections if on a non charter. The coast guard said they are federal and requirements are different than the DNR. Wychocki would find out the difference between the inspections. The bottom line is if we are on a charter they will not bother us. Children under 6 must wear any type and you must have the type 1 on board for them. All type 1 jackets must be stored together. 231 843-2447 is the coast guard number for Ludington. If you call for a tow they do a request broadcast for other boats or boat US unless it is an emergency/distress. They have about a 4 minute period to gear up and be in their boat for a distress call. 6:29 motion to accept minutes from the last meeting. All in favor 6:31 Treasures report presented by George Freeman what it is is 2017 dues $6475 in 2016 we had $6110. On the balance sheet $24924 last year $26103. We are down a bit however some members have not paid last year or this year and a few sponsors. Gary feels we have gained ground- in checking and savings. We had a write off from old members. George motioned to approve financial report- all in favor. 6:35 Net pens- Shawn Promorski's first year running the net pens successfully stocking 50,000 coho salmon was a success. Next year we are in need of new nets and possibly a new row boat. We gave gift certificates to Shawn Promorski for his mileage and the Consumers truck driver for $60 each as our appreciation 6:41 Sponsor day should be after Labor Day- it works better for everyone. 6:42 tournament has a new big boys event and we expect a good turnout. 6:43 Ed Stowe not present MUCC 6:45 Gary Smith on reef project. It looks like the DNR is pushing forward and Consumers is out. 6:50 GLSI Glen Bluher is pushing for increased salmon and a better predator to prey ratio. The predator prey biomass is fighting for a better biomass relationship. They have fell back on goby as to feed the lake trout. The goby is declining. The steelhead were actually have the highest goby diet- more than lakers and browns. The DNR is concerned with the goby collapse. The GLSI put forth a perspective on the lake- they have since the 1970s. Now they are looking into managing it in zones (breaking it down). Next year we may see massive quantity of brown trout. Traverse is smallmouth and lake trout. St Joe gets Coho. The numbers are difficult to look at. The 800,000 I the Plate have a poor return. They have to take angling effort into account. They have not yet to date. They are excited about the coho movement. Senator Hillebrand has been rolling up with the DNR trying to make this work. The major problem is the USFS is … [Read more...]
